| Both Jo Lewis and Jo Edwards got married themselves
in 2004 so they know first hand what it is like to be
the bride to be! |
| Jo Lewis Hair advice |
How
to choose your wedding style. |
|
When choosing a wedding hairstyle it is important
to have decided on your type of dress. There are 3
main looks that people seem to want to create.
- Soft and Romantic
- Sleek and Elegant
- Modern and Funky
If you are not sure what look you want to create,
I suggest getting a collection of Bridal, Hair and
regular glossy magazines. Have a flick through and
anything you like, even just a part of, tear out and
keep.
It is also important to think about how you normally
wear your hair. Most people do not want to look different
on their wedding day just a fantastic version of their
normal selves! For instance do not feel you have to
wear it up if you would never normally do so.
|
How
long will it last? |
| The longevity of your chosen style must be considered.
If you have your hair up you will not have to
worry about checking it as it will not change
throughout the day. Your own hair type will determine
how good it will look if worn down with a blow
dry or tonged. I fantasised about having long
pre raphaelite waves flowing over my shoulders
but knew realistically my hair is so fine and
straight it would look like I had not even brushed
it by 3pm!!! |
|
Is
my hair long enough? |
Do you need to grow your hair for the style
you require? If so make sure your regular hair
stylist is aware of this when you go for a haircut.
To wear hair up it is best to be well below the
shoulder.
You may possibly need a hairpiece for some styles.
These can be of high quality and match your own
colour perfectly. They can add length and bulk.
I wore one in my hair but no one had any idea
that it was not my own!!
|
|
How
close to wedding should I have it cut/coloured? |
Get all your appointments booked well in advance.
I would recommend last haircut and treatment -
2 weeks before.
Last colour - 1 week before
It is also best not to wash your hair on the day
if you are having it put up.
Hair that is a day old is much more manageable
to work with and likely to stay where it is put!

| Jo Edwards Make up advice |
| When deciding what sort of make-up "look"
you want on your wedding day you need to consider a
few things first. |
What
style is your dress, flowers and accessories? |
You need to bear the style of wedding dress
in mind, say you had chosen a stunning 1940's
dress, it's not going to look right if you go
for really modern pretty pink cheeks and lips!
You would want to incorporate the 1940's style
of make-up in the look!
That's not to say you have to do a certain look
head to toe like fancy dress but you do want your
overall look to all pull together!
|
|
Is
the ceremony going to be in the day or evening?
|
If the ceremony is in the morning you will need
a look that can carry through from looking good
in the daylight as well as artificial light
If you are having an evening ceremony then you
are only dealing with artificial light!
Think about where most of your photographs will
be being taken, inside, outside and time of day!
|
|
What
style of photography are you going for? |
| If you are going for quite a classic style of
photography with lots of close ups of yourself,
you may need to consider a slightly higher cover
foundation to insure your skin looks perfect!
|
|
Eyebrows |
The shape of your eyebrows is SO important,
they frame your eyes and really can't afford to
be overlooked on a day that you will have so
many photographs taken.
The shape should complement your face shape too,
it can be hard to do this yourself as you will
be so used to seeing them you won't always be
able be objective.
Don't just go to any therapist though; if you
can't be recommended a good one then go for a
trial as long as it is at least 4-5 months before
the wedding date so they have time to grow back
if they go over the top!
Unless you have your brows waxed regularly then
I would recommend going for plucking or threading
as it's more gradual and you have more control
over the outcome.
If you have very light brows or have over plucked
them in the past then filling them in is just
as important and getting the right colour and
texture, even more so!
I would say that a powder or wax is the most natural
looking, that's not to say you can't use pencils
but they need to be very soft if you do. |
|
Lips |
The condition of your lips is important; as
soon as you put any colour on them any chapped
skin or dryness will be magnified.
The sun is particularly harmful and drying so
always use a lip balm with a SPF in.
A good way to get them in tiptop condition is
to exfoliate and moisturise them regularly.
A toothbrush is actually a good tool for exfoliating
your lips, just brush over them from side to side
every night and again in the morning, pat dry
and apply lip balm.
Remember to do this on the run up to your wedding
day but not on the wedding morning, as lip balm
will make your lips slippery and your lipstick
won't stay on!
|
|
Eyes |
Try to avoid smoky bars and late nights the
week leading up to your wedding day, both these
contribute to red tired looking eyes!
Eye drops are also a good idea but make sure you
have tried them out prior to your wedding morning
just in case you have sensitive eyes that don't
get on with them!
Sounds obvious but lots of sleep will ensure your
eyes are looking clear and bright too.
