I, Jo Lewis one half of ‘The Perfect Marriage’ am getting married In August this year! I am so super excited!!
Not only have I met the man of my dreams, second time around, but after years of being involved in weddings and seeing so many fantastic, creative ideas and beautiful choices, I am getting to do all my planning with a step ahead!
So Dress shopping…Surely this has to be one of the biggest and most important events for a bride to be?
I struggled to shortlist all the shops I wanted to visit but ended up making appointments at the following;
Davids Bridal – Westfield Stratford,
Angelica Bridal – Islington
Bella Sposa – Upminster
Confetti and Lace – Lakeside
Ivy Blu – Billericay
Bellissima Weddings – South Woodham Ferrers
Now in most of these, all very varied shops I found what was ‘probably the one’ but wasn’t quite what I had expected to choose and was not 100% convinced until I visited Bellissima…….
I was a little nervous when I arrived as I had started to think that maybe ‘the perfect dress’ didn’t exist for me – Shock Horror….Was I too fussy?!! I was pleasantly surprised when I rang the doorbell and was entered into the shop to be sat with my bestie/bridesmaid on a beautiful silver velvet sofa surrounded by stunning flowers and the most beautiful scents coming from the reed diffusers.
Shortly after Kay, who I later discovered was the manageress got us to have a look through the large selection of dresses and shortlist some to try on also adding a few into the mix with her expertise after learning of the style i was trying to achieve.
She then took us through to the totally private, swanky and large changing room where I readily stripped as by this point Kay felt like a long lost friend, she was giggling away with me and my nutty best friend although never losing her professionalism.
Then the trying on session started! She never rushed me in and out of a dress and was quite happy to hang on when I was in dress number one and wanted to wait for my other bestie/bridesmaid numero two to arrive as she was running a few mins late….I had dragged her all the way from Middlesex!
She offered advice where needed and let us chat away and deliberate when we wanted to.
Then I put on ‘The One’……I did know it that moment as I couldn’t stop looking at myself (I’m not vain honestly!) there was no buts or maybes and to be honest I just didn’t want to take it off….She even let me swish around the shop pretending to run through meadows of flowers as in my dream wedding day and was happy to let my bridesmaids try on a couple of dresses in my chosen colour palette to see how the pieces all fit together.
There was no hard sale, no “well it might go out if stock”, no hard feelings about the day I had ahead visiting other shops. Now that is something to be learnt from other boutiques as it leaves you with such a good feeling about them.
I did spend the day putting on other dresses, reluctantly, and barely fastening them as I knew they just didn’t come close on my ‘dressometer’.
I woke up the next morning dreaming of my beautiful dress and desperate to get back to Bellissima Weddings and place that order!
From the moment of entering to the purchase where all the next steps are made crystal clear to you in their bridal pack, this shop stood out from its competitors not just for its wide range of dresses to suit all budgets, its beautiful décor but mainly in the friendly, knowledgable attitude of the ladies who work there.
Thank you to you all!
